The latest environmental studies focusing on Operable Units (OUs) C, D and E help define the next steps needed to complete cleanup and are described in the DTSC fact sheet issued in January 2012.
Remaining areas within OUs C and D requiring remedial action are shaded pink and purple on the map at right, and OU-E is shaded green (ponds are blue). Based on results of remedial investigations and feasibility studies for the remaining areas, final cleanup plans will be proposed in a draft Remedial Action Plan expected to be available for public review in 2013. Read more about the recent studies.
Majority of Mill Site Property Ready for Redevelopment
As a result of remedial work at the mill site over the past few years, 190 acres of coastal property are ready for redevelopment or reuse, in addition to the 92 acres of coastal bluff and parkland (OU-A) now owned by the City of Fort Bragg. Only about one-third of the former mill property requires additional work to prepare it for future reuse. Read more about the redevelopment process.
